Tibetan medicine

One of the three nyepas (nyes pa), rLung is a manifestation of the nature of primary element Air in a human body.

rLung is characterized by 6 features: rough, light, cold, subtle, hard and mobile.

According to Gyu Shi rLung gives strength to body and voice, controls breathing, all movements of body, speech, consciousness, circulation, movement of food in the gastrointestinal tract etc. rLung guides perception of sense organs and nervous system.

There are 5 main types of rLung: life-sustaining, ascending, all-pervasive, fire-accompanying, descending.

Diseases resulting from the rLung imbalance are detailed in the second chapter of Oral Instruction Tantra (1 category).
